We are seeking an experienced and technically driven Electrical Engineer to join our team and contribute to the design, delivery and technical support of data centre, critical power and infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing safe, reliable, efficient and resilient electrical solutions across LV/MV distribution, UPS and battery systems, generators, transformers, switchgear, ATS/STS systems, busbars and PDU infrastructure.
This is a hands-on engineering role covering the full project lifecycle, from design and tendering through procurement, installation, testing, commissioning and handover. The role requires close collaboration with clients, consultants, suppliers, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical systems for data centres, critical power and infrastructure projects.
- Prepare and review Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), electrical schematics, layouts, load schedules and cable schedules.
- Perform electrical calculations, including load analysis, cable sizing, voltage drop, fault levels, protection coordination, power factor and equipment sizing.
- Design and specify LV/MV distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, batteries, generators, ATS/STS systems, busbars, tap-off systems and PDUs.
- Develop electrical solutions incorporating appropriate resilience and redundancy philosophies, including N, N+1, N+2 and 2N configurations.
- Prepare technical specifications, scopes of work, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), equipment schedules and engineering documentation.
- Review client requirements, tender specifications, drawings and technical documentation and develop compliant engineering solutions.
- Evaluate supplier and subcontractor technical proposals, quotations, drawings and equipment selections.
- Provide technical support during tendering, procurement and project execution.
- Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, structural, civil, controls/BMS and other engineering disciplines.
- Conduct site inspections, surveys and technical assessments, identifying system constraints, risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide engineering support during electrical installation, testing, commissioning and handover.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems and equipment, conduct root-cause analysis and prepare technical reports.
- Ensure designs and installations comply with applicable SANS and IEC standards, electrical regulations, client specifications, safety requirements and OHS requirements.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation, drawings, calculations, revisions and as-built records.
- Liaise professionally with clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers and equipment manufacturers on technical matters.
- Assist with project cost optimisation and value engineering while maintaining reliability, safety and performance.
- Provide technical input during client meetings, design reviews, project reviews and tender clarification meetings.
- Support the successful delivery of projects within agreed scope, programme, budget, quality and safety requirements.
- Travel locally and internationally to project sites when required.
